Hi, I’m Joel and I’m an English teacher. Today I want to talk to you about pet peeves.
A pet peeve is something that annoys you. It’s something that you don’t like. It’s something that bothers you. Some examples would be a slow driver. Maybe you’re driving in your car and the person in front of you is going slow and you’re in a hurry. So, it’s hard for you to make it to where you’re going on time. So a pet peeve would be a slow driver.
And another possible pet peeve would be someone who talks with their mouth full. That is, someone who talks with their mouth full of food. So they’re eating and they’re talking. “Did you go to the movie yesterday?” So that would be another pet peeve.
And another possible pet peeve would be… talking on your cell phone really loud. Maybe you’re in a bus or at the library, even – some place public. And somebody else there is talking really loud on their phone. So, those are things that would annoy most people, that would bother most people, that most people don’t like.
So, you could call those pet peeves. So, how do you talk about pet peeves? I can say, “What are your pet peeves?” And you could say, “My pet peeves are when people talk loud on their cell phone, and I also don’t like slow drivers.”
Some people aren’t really annoyed by very many things. So in that case, when I ask you, “Do you have any pet peeves?” You could say, “I don’t really have any pet peeves.”
So, hope you learned something today. So next time when you’re talking to somebody, and you’re trying to get to know them, this would be something good you could talk about.
